SOUTHFIELD, MI
-- January 31, 2000
The
Canadian Fishing Company, like most other business-to-business
companies, now works with e-mail so extensively that their day-to-day
operations rely on it very heavily.
The
company choose Microsoft Exchange for their Mail Server software, but
was concerned about the security risks and amount of spam in an
Exchange-only environment. After
researching the market, they implemented Praetor from Computer
Mail Services. It was
the only available product with both the security and spam-blocking
features we needed, said Ernest Hawker, Systems Administrator for
Canadian Fishing Company.
I
had heard of Exchange servers being hijacked by spammers.
I had thought this was rare, and that only badly-configured
servers were vulnerable. I have since learned that the question is not
if, but when spammers will hack your server, said Hawker.
Praetor is surprisingly successful at filtering spam.
Praetor's system of user-configurable rules and filters allows us to
adjust its settings to suit our organization - and to keep up with the
changing tactics used by spammers. We reject a majority of incoming spam
while practically none of our legitimate mail is held up. Praetor has
also trapped several virus-contaminated emails.
After
installing Praetor at their Head Office, the company found that Praetor
worked so well that they plan to deploy it all their branch offices,
also.
Probably
the best feature of the software doesn't come on the distribution CD.
When I ran into problems configuring Praetor, the support I received
from Computer Mail Services was exemplary, said Hawker. CMS'
technical staff did whatever it took to solve my problems quickly. In
over 20 years in the industry, I have never seen better customer
service.
