IP and Domain Filtering

IP Filtering is performed under the administrative facilities of the Microsoft Windows SMTP Server that is accessed via the Control Panel applet for the Internet Information Services, which appears in the folder for Administrative Tools.  Expand the left pane until you can select the icon in the left pane.

Right-mouse click and select to view the properties of this SMTP Virtual Server and select the Access tab.

Press the button in the Connection control group box.

It is here that you may add access restrictions, either based on IP address, IP address range using a subnet mask, or domain name.

The Windows SMTP server will perform a check against this restricted list as soon an attempted connection is made.  If the attempt is being made by a mail server on this restricted list, the connection is denied or accepted according to the radio button selection of which computers may access this one.

Warning:

CMS strongly recommends you carefully consider before putting any public IP address entry using an address range into this IP Address list since this represents an entire group of machines.
