Relay Filtering

By default the Windows virtual SMTP is set to prevent SMTP relaying. This is done to so that anonymous spammers will be prevented from robbing  valuable mail server resources from you and route all of their junk email. Only those mail servers specifically allowed to relay will be permitted to send email via this mail server.

To change your settings run the Control Panel applet that administers the Internet Information Services on this machine.  This applet will likely be found in the Administrative Tools folder.

Expand the left pane until you can select the icon in the left pane.

Right-mouse click and select to view the properties of this SMTP Virtual Server and select the Access tab.

Press the button in the Relay restrictions group box.

It is here that you may add access restrictions, either based on IP address, IP address range using a subnet mask, or domain name.

Warning:

It is very dangerous for you to check the radio button for All except the list below since this will effectively disable all protection against mail relaying.  This will get your mail server listed on various DNS blacklists.
