SOUTHFIELD, MI — October 27, 2005
— Computer Mail
Services, Inc. (CMS), a leading email security and management
software provider, today announced the public availability of
the Praetor Managed eMail (MeM) service. Designed for
the small business community, this service offers the expert
filtering enjoyed by large companies but without the need for
dedicated administrative staff.
Praetor MeM
is different from traditional outsourced email filtering
services. With Praetor MeM, all corporate email is received,
filtered and archived on a server at the customer’s site and
always under the customer’s control. “Outsourced email
filtering services usually operate on servers external to their
client’s email systems. The door is then open to security and
confidentiality breaches, so many businesses
cannot let an external filtering service control their email,
even temporarily. Praetor MeM eliminates all these concerns.”,
said Lih-Tah Wong, CMS President.
CMS technicians
remotely install and configure Praetor MeM on a client’s
server. Then periodically, at prearranged times allowed by the
customer, they remotely connect to the customer’s Praetor MeM
machine and check filtering effectiveness. To insure email
privacy, CMS technicians can only access message headers and
summary information. Complete reports of each check-up are
delivered to the administrator and include reviews of filtering
performance, summarization of Bayesian training and
recommendations to improve its effectiveness.
Praetor MeM is
fully customizable to the specific needs of each client to a
level not available from outsourced email filtering services.
Without the need to share resources among many clients,
customization is not limited to white lists, banned text or
other simple lists. Instead Praetor MeM can be customized to
the specific needs of departments or individuals simply by
requesting the development of site-specific rules.
Since there is
no filtering resource shared among multiple clients, Praetor MeM
eliminates the consequences of a spammer attack on one client
overloading resources affecting others. Also access to
quarantined messages is never delayed by overloaded resources.
Customer
feedback for the Praetor MeM service has already been positive.
Matthew Cummings, administrator for the Yellow Pages Association
stated, “Yes we are very happy with the service so far. Our
tech at CMS has contacted me each week to check out how well the
changes he has suggested have been working. We have noticed a
drop in the amount of spam getting through to our end users and
we have been able to reduce the amount of false positives. The
new reporting features are great; they allow us to see very
quickly what is happening with our Praetor install”.
Praetor MeM is
available now with prices starting at US$200 per year for 10
users. To provide the connectivity required, there is a
separate annual charge for the GoToMyPC® secure remote control service.
