The OPT-IN / OPT-OUT Hokey Pokey
Spent some time looking at different flavors of opt-in and opt-out methods. It inspired me to create this little parody. So sing along to the tune of that good-ol' wedding song the Hokey Pokey...
You send your “OPT-IN” in
You send your “OPT-OUT” out
Your “CONFIRMED OPT-INs” in
And you’re mails safe no doubt.
How ‘bout a “DOUBLE OPT-IN”
So the spammer finds another route.
That’s what it’s all about.
Oh and in doing the OPT-IN / OPT-OUT dance you will …
- Clog the Internet with more useless email as each spam message could generate a corresponding challenge message. Remember that some estimates now put the level of spam at 80% of all Internet email.
- Confirm to a spammer that your address is real.
- Work your fingers to the bone clicking those OPT-IN / OPT-OUT buttons.
- And in the end, get the same amount of spam you would have anyway.
Next week… the “Double Secret Probation Opt-In" or perhaps the Marx Brothers in “A Night at the Opt-In”.
I've really got to get more sleep on the weekends.
