And the winner is Donald Trump and Spam

Donald Trump and spam email , to some, it may seem like an unlikely pair, but to spammers it apparently is desirable (i.e. profitable).

AOL just came out with the top spam subject lines for 2005 and the envelope please… In the category of “Popular Recognition” the winner is “Donald Trump Wants You - Please Respond”.

Who wouldn’t jump at that? Maybe “The Donald” is bypassing the TV show and hiring me directly without those silly games. He's got a bridge in Brooklyn he want me to manage.

Of course other spammer categories include stock tips, pharmaceuticals, porn and a myriad of other typical subject spammers use to separate John Q. Public from their money.

My favorite quote from the AOL article is…

Spam gangs on the internet engaging in 'hit-and-run' spam attacks in 2004 have turned into a tightly-knit, controlled, web-based spam mafia coordinating sustained attacks on netizens in 2005."

I think I see two new spam-based catch phrases in this quote… “Spam Gangs” and “Spam Mafia”. I’d look for more of these terms in the year to come.

So let’s end the year paraphrasing Sam Cooke:

“That’s the sound of the men, working on the Spam Gang.
That’s the sound of the men working on the Spam Gang.

Can't ya hear them Googlin' Mmm,
I'm goin' homepage one of these days..."

Happy New Year.
