If you have antivirus software running on the Praetor machine, it is imperative that you stop it from operating while you are trying to install Praetor. CMS has found that some antivirus products will prevent successful installation. Also you must configure it so that it will not scan the Praetor and IIS folders. The paths for these are typically
Antivirus software will cause unpredictable behavior and interfere with Praetor normal operation. You will see errors logged into the Windows Event application log. For other caveats involving antivirus products, see this FAQ. |
After all the Praetor pre-requisite components have been installed (database, Bayesian word list, PLGV), the actual filtering component will be installed. The main installer will launch the InstallShield Wizard and you will momentarily see the following screen.
Initial setup screen
Once the preliminary expansion of Praetor's files is completed, you will see the following welcome screen.

Press the
button to proceed to review the End User
License Agreement.

After reviewing the license agreement, select the
radio button and press
to continue. This
will display the data entry screen prompting for the email address of
your administrator. Enter
a valid SMTP/Internet email address.

You may also change the default location where Praetor's files will
be stored. Press
to select a new location or drive. By
default, the installation will place the Praetor files in C:\Program Files\CMS
Praetor G2.
Once the email address has been entered and you changed the destination
location (if desired), pressing
will display the following
screen allowing you to review and go back to a previous screen.

to proceed with installing Praetor files and
display a progress bar.
Installing Praetor components
The screen will continue to be updated, and as you near completion, you will see a display indicating the registration of Praetor's components.
Registering Praetor components
After registration has completed, the installer will attempt to check and update any redistributed components from Microsoft, e.g. Microsoft Database Access Component, Visual Basic Run-time, etc.. As this happens, you may see Windows Installer appear and disappear in the task bar when the following screen with the 100% status bar displayed.
After outdated Microsoft components have been updated, the installation process will be completed when you will see the following.

to close this final screen.
At this point, Praetor has been completely installed as a 21-day evaluation. It is not operational and you will need to use the supplied administration program (a snap-in for Microsoft Management Console) to configure and start Praetor filtering.
